As part of our sustainability ethos, we support local businesses and organisations to become more resilient. We give back to the community supporting charities and developing the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Most goods and all services are sourced from the Wellington region, directly supporting over 40 businesses. This reduces our carbon footprint and helps stimulate our local economy.
We provided free support to Wellington businesses to help them repidly restore business operations following the November 2016 earthquakes.
We delivered free earthquake preparedness training to community groups as part of “ShakeOut” 2015.
Team members are encouraged to give back to the community in the form of volunteering. They can apply for up to 2 days off with pay to undertake training as a volunteer worker for a registered charity, volunteer fire fighter or civil defence. Two team members are Civil Defence volunteers.
We actively support Life Flight Trust, Mary Potter Hospice, Foundation for the Blind, Fred Hollows foundation, Wellington City Mission, Wellington SPCA locally.
World Vision and WSPA internationally. We collect and recycle stamps to raise funds for a flying doctor service in Africa.
For the past 4 years we have supported Whitireia Polytec Entrepreneurship program as a guest lecturer. Classes are a mix of local students and international students who generate significant revenue for the local economy.
Dennis – Business Planning Project.6 month internship during which he successfully completed his research project as well as 6 smaller projects, which included project management, training course design and hazard identification documentation for a major client.
Stephanie – Marketing Project. Review Disaster Prepare and Survive-it products and services to emphasise consistent key messages and recommend joint marketing strategy.
Frank – Market Research Project. Plan and conduct market research for our seismic building performance R&D project called TremAsense.
Kolien – Multimedia project. Produce a series of short training videos for pay per view downloads from our website. Additional work included, staff induction video, health and safety video, and specific product installation videos.
Work is already underway to select an intern to start in February and 2 more in August 2017
